I’ll share with you some scenic island pictures, but truly most of our time was spent discovering the underwater world. We had a bungalow right on the beach in Koh Lipe, where living coral was 20 meters off the beach. We floated through our days, taking in different spots on the island as well as traveling by longtail boat to Koh Adang and Koh Jabang. I’ve always loved snorkeling and continue my hope that several hours in the water count as exercise; it was a dream to introduce the children to the magic. As one of the tour operators’ boat says: “Same Planet, Different World.” To jump off the boat, hold a child’s hand and be surrounded by fish of all colors . . . bliss.

Both islands we stayed at–Koh Lipe and Koh Bulon–have no cars. We loved walking barefoot to family cocktail hour on beach mats before moving next door to candelit Thai fare on the beach. IMG_0590
